INTRODUCING HIGH JOHN THE CONQUEROR

Anansi is back with another iteration of ANANSI TALES FOR THE HOLIDAYS. Each year, the anticipation builds as we introduce new folktales and characters to our holiday show, adding fresh layers to the rich tapestry of cultural storytelling. In this year's edition, we proudly unveil another character from the African-American folklore lexicon—HIGH JOHN THE CONQUEROR.

ANANSI TALES FOR THE HOLIDAYS celebrates cultural diversity, blending the enchanting traditions of African, Caribbean, and African-American folklore. Through a captivating mix of interactive theatre, storytelling, and puppetry, we transport our audience into the heart of these vibrant narratives, fostering a sense of connection to a shared heritage.

{theatre}+{náfsi} FOR Youth takes great pride in presenting these enchanting tales that are not just for the young but for the whole family. We believe in the transformative power of storytelling, showcasing that employing one's intellect is a powerful tool when facing life's obstacles. As one of Rochester's newest and most cherished holiday traditions, we bring a fresh perspective to the season, infusing it with the magic of interactive theatre and the timeless wisdom embedded in our narratives.

In our interactive production, we go beyond the stage, inviting the audience to actively participate in the unfolding stories. Through this engagement, we aim to reinforce the idea that "brains" are always a valuable asset, promoting resilience and problem-solving skills in the face of challenges. By weaving these tales into the fabric of our community, we contribute to framing the holiday season as more than just a time for festivities—it becomes a profound moment of communal sharing, where generations come together to celebrate the beauty of diverse narratives and collective wisdom.

Our Griot Artists, a skilled and diverse ensemble of Youth and Adults, collaborate to bring these tales to life. With the enthusiastic involvement of the audience and the enriching contributions from community guest readers, we create a unique and interactive experience.
